Navigating Slack
Slack is the productivity app that we use to moderate our content. It can be used through a web browser, a desktop app, or on your mobile device. Our Slack is comprised of 6 different channels:
- # announcements: As the name implies, this is where we post major announcements. The monthly mod agreement form will be sent through this channel. It's super important to enable notifications or regularly check this channel.
- # mod-inbox: This is one of the inboxes where new content goes for review. When reviewing you will be asked to either approve or reject content
- #new-user-content: This is the second inbox where new content goes for review. This inbox is specifically for new users who are posting their first three pieces of content on the platform. It is important to note that unlike #mod-inbox where you are reviewing content that has already been posted to CareerVillage, content from this inbox is still pending and invisible to the community. Only after you approve the content will it become visible to the rest of the community so it's imperative that you be sure it meets the guidelines when approving.
- # mod-approved: Once content is approved, it is sent to this channel
- # mod-flagged: If content is rejected, it comes here to be resolved by either Gurpreet or Alex. You don't need to worry about the content in this channel.
- # mod-leaderboard: Where Gurpreet runs weekly moderation stats to see how fast content is being reviewed, which also shows how many pieces of content each moderator reviewed
- # mod-resolved: Once flagged content has been fixed, it becomes resolved.
Direct Messaging
Direct messages allow you to communicate one on one with others in Slack. For instance, if you have a question about content, you can reach out directly to Gurpreet or Alex. You can also share posts, screenshots, and other content via message. These messages are only visible to you and the recipient(s). Messaging is particularly useful if you have a technical question about something on Slack or CV.
Commenting
You can respond to posts in Slack by commenting. You can use callouts (@) to tag specific people in your comment in order to address them or bring their attention to something. These may be particularly useful if you have a question about a specific piece of content you are reviewing, and want to tag someone for help.
