As a volunteer moderator, you play a key role in keeping the CareerVillage community safe, respectful, and aligned with our standards. We understand the nuance involved with moderation and that honest mistakes happen. However, approving content that violates our guidelines, even unintentionally, can be harmful to the community.
If a Violation Occurs:
-
Check-in
In the first instance, we’ll reach out with a check-in that includes:
- A brief explanation of the issue
- A request for feedback from you on how the decision was made
- A link to the relevant guidelines
- Suggestions to help you recognize similar issues moving forward
- Opportunity to learn, ask questions, and realign with moderation standards.
-
Temporary Pause & Training Refresh
If a second issue occurs:
- Your moderation access will be temporarily paused
- You'll be asked to review the moderation handbook and training materials
- When your training refresh is complete, you can resume moderation once we feel you are prepared to make moderation decisions going forward.
-
Possible Dismissal
A third issue may lead to:
- Immediate dismissal OR
- A one-on-one conversation may be scheduled with a community team member to review your moderation history and clarify expectations, depending on the situation
- Depending on the outcome of the 1:1, this may result in ending your time as a volunteer moderator
Ongoing Support
We appreciate your time and effort as a volunteer moderator and want you to feel supported in your role. If you’re ever unsure about a moderation decision or guideline:
- DM a staff member directly in Slack
- Ask for help in the #discussion Slack channel
- It’s okay to reject content if you're in doubt and can’t get immediate assistance. All flagged content is reviewed by staff, and we’ll handle it accordingly.
We're always happy to clarify or walk through a situation together. Thank you for helping make CareerVillage a safe and supportive space for all.
